Catharina was am amazing woman! How heart-wrenching it must have been for her losses. I can understand what an uphill battle she faced in that time and place in her quest for recompense. Brava to her!

What an incredible story! The Pest House really was a thing... and losing so many children in a short period. Heartbreaking.

Yes. And to top it off she lost her husband so early and had to do everything including taking care of the kids. She was amazing for sure. Glad you liked it.

That is a woman you want on your side. She endured so much pain yet didn't give up the fight.

As an Evansville native and Evansville history buff, I really enjoyed this glimpse into the city's early history, especially from a personal vantage point. I think you told me of your grandmother's story before, in person -- was her son, Peter, the one who bought the land that later became Villa Sites?

I'm hoping to catch up on reading your recent posts this weekend!
