Lynda, this sounds and looks delicious. Even more so, I'm loving the stained page from her well loved and used cooking note book. What a precious memorial to your childhood. When my grandmother was moved to a home, I wanted her hand written recipes more than anything. Sadly, they were carelessly tossed into the auction bin. How wonderful that you're passing on these recipes from the past - thank you for sharing them in this series.
Jaime, I’m sorry you didn’t get her written recipes. It is a treasure for me to have Mom’s handwritten recipes - keeps her memory alive. Thank you for stopping by and reading and commenting.
It's hard to chose a favorite from my mom's cakes. She was proud of her German Chocolate Cake made from scratch (icing too). I really liked her spice cake a lot.
Virginia, It is hard to choose. German Chocolate sounds like a good contender for being the best. Mom used to make a chocolate cake with icing that disappeared into the cake if it sat out for too long. It was so yummy.
Lesley, Don’t mean to tempt you! I don’t bake much anymore except a pie or biscotti for special occasions, but this booklet got me to thinking about trying it again. I do have taste testers so we don’t get stuck eating the whole cake!
Laura, Glad you enjoyed it. I loved sharing it with you two. I hadn’t heard of it either but didn’t want to grease and flour, so I found this recipe on several sites.
Amy, you could put just plain white frosting, but you'll miss the lemon flavor unless you make a lemon icing. Even with lemon cake and lemon Jell-O, it wasn't very lemony without the glaze. And it's so moist and yummy.

Love the Jell-O cakes. Makes me want to make one now.
So easy and so tasty!
Very summery too.
I'm sure my mom would have been happy to see her cake pan used in your mom's recipe! And I will add the lemon cake was tasty indeed.

You sure do tempt me with all these recipes, but sugar is a no-no in my house.

Thanks for sharing some of that cake with Tom and me. It was so good.
Great post -- and I'm glad to know about "cake release" -- never heard of that before!

That looks delicious. I love lemon cake.
Bill, it was!
If you wanted to put a frosting on it instead of glaze, what would you recommend? It looks SO moisy by the way.
