Are city directories like the phone book our generation used? They were once published every year so you could find your neighbors number? I'm assuming these older directors were similar, but since they didn't have phones then, they used them like we used the phone book. I need to check my rabbit hole in Ancestry. Interesting.

Nanette, City directories didn't list phone numbers. They listed names, occupations of those employed and addresses. Some wives were listed but often just widows unless she was employed. My grandfather owned a business, so whenever he got the new editiion, he'd give us the old one. Mom would look up where our dates' parents lived!!

Excellent tip, Lynda. I avoided Directories for a long time because I couldn't be certain it was My Relative. I loved them so much once I started using them, I volunteered at the Historical Society so I could use their set.
