Thank you for commenting and liking my irises. I’ve been posting about my irises since 2010 on my website, Lynda Heines Fabric Design. Back then the website was called Bloom, Bake, Create since I wasn’t real deep into art, and spending lots of time on gardening and baking. However, even when my fabric art took over my life, the irises were always there. And they multiplied!
This year was probably the best year since we moved here in 2007. I was so surprised that there were several beds with irises. I had never been able to grow them at other homes because of lack of space and sunlight.
I fell in love with them, and before long we had several areas that were dedicated to irises. A large area in our backyard was devoted to those extra irises I had split from other beds. I called it my iris holding area since many of them would be potted up the following year and sold at our Master Gardeners’ annual plant sale.
My journey to never having irises to ending up with so many beauties is a story, but for another time. I’m heading down to Alabama shortly to spend the week with my friend Sharon. We’re going to add to her iris bed and other gardening chores besides just hanging out and making more memories. If you want to know about our story, check out these two posts:
My Letter to Steve
Letters can be written for a variety of reasons. They can be many things: hurtful, informative, healing, and even life-changing. They can be handwritten on floral stationery or typed on computer paper. Here is part one of my letter to Steve last July.
Mari’s Gift
The letter to Steve was mailed, and my mission was complete. I had delivered Mari's message. Now, I needed to sift through the few mementos of my sister's life I brought back in my suitcase and figure out how I was going to crawl through the pain. Her death brought back my old friend the journal, awakening my love for writing myself out the pain by open…
Getting back to the irises, if you’d like to see all of the beauties that bloomed this year, check out my link to my blog where I have posted my 2025 Iris Parade. Have a great Memorial weekend and thanks for subscribing!
Your irises are just gorgeous! I really need to plant more for next year.
You have inspired me. I put out 100 daffodils about 15 years ago. They are doing great. Darwin tulips are supposed to naturalize, and I'll put 30 of them out in September and we'll see how it goes. Now I'm thinking about putting out some irises.
