Some of you may recognize me as a textile artist and creator of the popular ice dyeing technique. I also love so many other surface design techniques, especially leaf printing. And, of course, teaching. I’m not giving them up. However, I’ve not always played with dyes and fabric.
I’ve always been a writer.
My love affair for the written word started back in the sixth grade when mom gifted me a Girl Scout Diary for Christmas. Inspired by her fondness for letter writing, I began corresponding with teenagers worldwide eagerly awaiting the arrival of letters from distant lands. I briefly worked as a reporter for a small-town newspaper, but unfortunately the job didn’t quite match my expectations! Most of my work experience has involved writing.
I also taught journal writing which I called “Heartwriting” for eleven years in LA, Chicago and Indiana, and online. In 2009 I was fortunate to write a column for our newspaper on local artists. That writing lead me to my artistic pursuits. Now I’ve come full circle. As I said, I’m not giving up my art, just adding more writing. If you’d like to see what I create art wise, check out my website at https://lyndaheines.com/
For Heines Sight I’ll be exploring those topics that are close to my heart: genealogy, art and life. I’ll be sharing my journey finding my ancestors, and personal essays about my life - the struggles, the joys and more. Since I was once a journal writing teacher I may also sprinkle in some of those posts. I hope you will find something valuable from my sharing. I’d love to hear from you during this journey so please feel free to comment.
Congratulations on launching your Substack, Lynda! This is a lovely first post. I can't wait to read more!
